PNC and Business Services Specialist – Permanent Full-Time Role
Location: Bedford Borough Hall, Chord Park, Letchworth Grade/Salary: A3 – £28,071 per annum (pro rata) hours: 37 per week
About the Role
The Information Management Department (IMD) at Bedfordshire Constabulary, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, and Hertfordshire Constabulary (collectively known as BCH) brings together key support functions such as Organisational Support. This role as a PNC and Business Services Specialist will focus on updating and interrogating national databases, providing vital support to crime reduction, prevention, and safeguarding efforts across BCH.
The PNC (Police National Computer) compliance is integral to operations, requiring meticulous adherence to the PNC Code of Practice. As a specialist, you will conduct investigative searches across multiple systems, foster accuracy in data handling, and deliver business services to meet organisational needs.
Terms of Work
- Permanent full-time
- Standard working pattern:
- Two weeks: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- One week: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Working weeks: Mon–Fri
Job Responsibilities
- Database Maintenance: Ensure the Police National Computer (PNC) and relevant systems adhere to national standards for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Crime Prevention: Deliver accurate data-facilitated intelligence supporting crime reduction and investigation.
- Investigative Support: Lead searches of PNC and collaborative databases to assist in operational process.
- System Utilisation: Leverage national and local data resources to support investigative and administrative functions.
- Compliance Focus:
- Maintain adherence to the PNC Code of Practice
- Deliver timely, accurate submissions to meet internal effectiveness targets
- Core Business Operational Support:
- Perform additional business services as directed by organisational needs.

About the Department
The Information Management Department (IMD) is a collaborative hub aligning Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire within BCH. Your role sits within this dynamic structure, linking to:
- Police operations
- Data-driven decision-making
- Information Safety protocols
- Inter-agency collaboration

Vetting Process
The BCH Vetting Unit may contact your current managers for a Supervisor Appraisal to comply with Guidelines for Vetting (APP 6.5.18). This may apply if you are:
- Transferring to another police force.
- Renewing, updating, or applying for MV clearance (verified Policing grade).
- Moving to a Vulnerable Persons’ or Confidential data role.
Managers will be contacted if relevant during the application process.
Redeployment Policy
This vacancy is open to:
