PNC and Business Service Specialist (Maternity cover) - Cambs
Police Staff Maternity Leave Cover – Full-Time (Information Management Dept.)
Scale 5 – £30,333 per annum, 37 hours per week (including 12 hours of select coverage)

About the Role
The Information Management Department (IMD) is a collaborative department across Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, and Hertfordshire Constabulary (BCH), covering a range of key enterprise and governance functions.
As a PNC and Business Services Specialist, you will assist in reducing reoffending and safeguarding by updating and interrogating the Police National Computer (PNC) and other national/BCH systems. Your work will ensure compliance with PNC Code of Practice standards, including timely and accurate data processing. You will also conduct investigative searches and provide additional business services.
This role requires adherence to a consistent working pattern:
- Two weeks: 8:00am – 4:00pm
- One week: 9:00am – 5:00pm
You must be available Mon–Fri within these hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, interrogate, and update the PNC and associated systems (e.g., fingerprint, DVLA, SIP), ensuring compliance with PNC Code of Practice Standards.
- Conduct complex and specialised searches across multiple databases to support investigations, safeguarding ensures, and criminal intelligence.
- Process and maintain high-volume business transactions for personnel and registration changes, including PNC deletions and correction of errors.
- Assist in data integrity management, ensuring accuracy and completeness of police records.
- Provide business support for Information Management functions, including report generation, data analysis, and system audits.
- Work within a collaborative environment to improve operational efficiency in BCH.
- Comply with information governance policies, including GDPR and police discretionary protocols.

Job Knowledge & Skills
- Experience working with high volumes of sensitive data in a law enforcement or governance environment.
- Proficiency in IT systems, particularly those requiring attention to detail and adherence to policy (e.g., PNC administration*).
- Fluency in basic investigative practices, demonstrating an ability to find patterns and extract meaningful information from records.
- Strong administrative & project-managing skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced operational setting.
- Previous exposure to voucher enforcement or personnel policing operations is beneficial but not required.
No formal training qualification is mandatory, but Police Licensed Constable qualifiers may find this a natural career progression path.

Key Policies & Processes
MV Vetting Process
All candidates selected will undergo MV vetting. The BCH Vetting Unit may contact your current line manager for a Supervisor Appraisal. This is required when:
- Applicants wish to transfer to another force
- Vetting is renewed.
- Roles require MV clearance (including if you already hold MV clearance).
- Roles involve frequent contact with vulnerable individuals (e.g., youth services, child safety).
Notifying Managers: Your employer will be informed upon the start of the vetting process.
