Police Staff Maternity Leave Cover - Information Management - Full Time (Scale 5, £30,333 - Bedford Borough Hall, Chord Park)
About the Role
The Information Management Department (IMD) is a collaborative department within Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, and Hertfordshire Constabulary (BCH), encompassing multiple business areas under Organisational Support.
The role of PNC and Business Services Specialist is designed to update and interrogate the Police National Computer (PNC), as well as other national and BCH systems, in order to support crime reduction, prevention, and safeguarding.
You’ll work to help BCH achieve PNC Code of Practice Standards, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.Tasks include:
- Conducting investigative searches across the PNC and other databases as required
- Providing additional business services as needed
This is a full-time post with a structured working pattern:
- Two weeks 8am–4pm
- One week 9am–5pm
All hours fall within Monday–Friday.
Key Responsibilities

PNC Management & Compliance:
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate records on the PNC in line with national standards
- Lead timeliness and accuracy of PNC data to meet the Code of Practice objectives
- Identify opportunities for crime prevention and safeguarding through inspections and searches

Database Interrogation & Reporting:
- Carry out investigations across other databases as part of operational-level support
- Provide data-driven analytics and reports to support external and internal functions

Business Support Services:
- Assist with general business processes relating to PNC data, rogueclearance, and reporting streams
- Implement improvements where necessary, contributing to local operational efficiency

Requirements
Minimum Entry Criteria
External candidates: Submit a concise statement of up to 500 words aligning with these prerequisites, alongside your CV.
Essential Qualifications
- Full PNC Codes and Roles Access Certification (or equivalency) as operated through the Force Information Systems Security Policy
- Access to DVLA Data (HMV Level 2 equivalent)
- DBS Enhanced Check (or willing to undergo within recruitment process)
- Meets 2025 National Guidelines of Vetting (APP 6.5.18) for close work with vulnerable individuals or MV-cleared roles if applicable
Desirable Skills
- Practical experience – either professional or personal – in safeguarding, intelligence, or fraud prevention
- Proficiency with database tools (e.g. SQL, spreadsheets, or structured record-keeping systems)
- Demonstrable attention to detail for handling sensitive information

Working Conditions & Vetting
- Nature of Role: Office-based at Bedford Borough Hall. Role holders will occasionally work from other BCH sites as operational requirements dictate
Vetting Process Note
As part of recruitment, the BCH Vetting Unit will need approval from your current line manager (or previous manager if applicable) as per Supervisor Appraisal Lookup 6.5.18. Relevance to typical checks: ✅ Transfer into this role (within the same force or new clearing) ✅ Moving to MV-cleared status (even if MV is already held) or roles involving safeguarding of vulnerable individuals.
