Podcast Guest Researcher (Freelance / Remote)
We’re looking for a freelance Podcast Guest Researcher to join the team behind Option One, one of the UK’s fastest-growing long-form interview podcasts.
The show features guests from across entertainment, media, internet culture, and the adult industry. While many conversations go far beyond adult entertainment, you do need to be comfortable speaking with guests from that world.
This isn’t your typical research role. AI can Google a guest. What we’re interested in is everything that AI can't do, factor in the human element of the guest.
We want someone who’s naturally curious, enjoys talking to people, and can uncover the stories, opinions, and experiences that make someone genuinely fascinating. Sometimes that means finding an incredible story nobody’s ever heard before. Other times it means discovering that someone simply isn’t the right fit for the podcast.
You’ll become an important part of our editorial process, helping us understand not just who a guest is, but whether they’ll make for a great conversation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you’ll be doing
For each prospective guest, you’ll:
- Arrange and conduct a relaxed pre-interview call or Zoom (usually around 30 minutes).
- Build rapport and make guests feel comfortable opening up.
- Discover stories, experiences, and opinions that aren’t publicly available.
- Get a feel for their personality, how naturally they tell stories, and whether they’ll work well in a long-form conversation.
- Identify the strongest directions the podcast could take based on your conversation.
- Flag any subjects that should be approached carefully or avoided.
- Produce a concise editorial report summarising your findings and your recommendation.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is naturally curious and genuinely enjoys talking to people.
- Can quickly build trust and make people feel at ease.
- Knows how to ask follow-up questions that uncover the really interesting stuff.
- Is a great listener and communicator.
- Can spot when someone has an untold story worth exploring.
- Is organised, reliable, and comfortable working independently.
- Is comfortable speaking with guests from the adult entertainment industry.
- Has an interest in podcasts, journalism, television, or interviewing (although this isn’t essential).

A final note…
We’re much more interested in finding someone who’s naturally curious than someone with the perfect CV.
If you’re the sort of person who loves hearing people’s stories, asks great questions, and often finds yourself saying “That’s fascinating… tell me more,” we’d love to hear from you.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
