Job Description
Role Overview
To provide specialist footcare for patients with diabetes and complex high-risk foot problems. This includes patients with acute and chronic foot wounds, patients with neuropathic and vascular complications, patients with foot complications who are immunosuppressed, and patients who have poor tissue viability. The post holder will be clinically responsible for the treatment of the high-risk caseload, working autonomously as well as part of the multidisciplinary team. The post requires accepting emergency referrals from GPs, community podiatrists, and other health professionals and will provide responsive specialist care to both inpatients and outpatients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with complex diabetic foot disease, including ulceration, infection, Charcot neuroarthropathy, vascular compromise, lower limb wounds, and pre- and post-amputation care.
- Lead and coordinate Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Team (MDFT) activity.
- Provide rapid access to specialist assessment and intervention.
- Develop evidence-based treatment plans across acute, outpatient, and community settings.
- Deliver advanced wound management, debridement, and high-risk foot care.
- Support integrated patient pathways to improve outcomes and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications and amputations.

Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives, including the National Diabetes Foot Care Audit (NDFA).
- Provide education, mentorship, and clinical supervision to colleagues and students, promoting best practice in diabetic foot care.
