Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Vacancy

This role is critical to enhancing community safety.

About the Role

As a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), you’ll make a direct and vital contribution to your local community. The role involves:

  • Providing an assuring presence to the public
  • Supporting efforts to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Strengthening relationships between policing and local residents

You’ll work within Neighbourhood Policing Teams, actively improving quality of life and safety across the area through visible, proactive measures.

Working Pattern

  • Flexible arrangements: Full or part-time availability

Remuneration & Benefits

Salary Progression

  • Starting pay (with shift allowance): £31,749 annually (full-time, 37 hours/week)
  • Maximum progressive salary: Up to £38,169 based on length of service and performance

Leave & Pensions

  • Annual leave: Minimum 178 hours (24 days), with 222 hours (30 days) potential availability for full-time officers
  • Public holidays: 8 days entitlement
  • Pension scheme: Contributory Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) pension under the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS): employer and employee contributions

Key Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of UK residency
  • Full UK manual driving licence required (mandatory for all PCSOs)

Selection Criteria

Eligibility is currently limited to: 🔸 Active equivalence candidates* (including redeployees) who meet priority needs 🔸 No new candidates (original posting has now lapsed due to recruitment adjustments)

Additional Conditions

Pre-Employment Checks

The role has been identified as high-risk for forensic contamination, requiring:

  • A DNA and fingerprint elimination sample
  • Analysis against databases for contamination exclusion
  • The sample will be securely stored in alignment with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR standards.

Protected Processes for Redeployees

  • Applicants already at risk of redundancy will be given priority at every stage until condition offers are extended.
  • Selection will continue for redeployees only until finalized conditional offers.
