Join West Midlands Police as a Police Constable through our Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP). As a Police Officer, you’ll play a vital role in keeping communities safe, protecting the vulnerable, and maintaining law and order. No two days are the same – you could be making an arrest, supporting a domestic abuse victim, policing a major event, or responding to 999 calls. This is a rewarding and challenging career that allows you to make a real difference.

About the PCEP Programme
Practical Route – A Two-Year Work-Based Entry Programme

Focus: On-the-job training with minimal theoretical overload

Initial Training (22 weeks):
- Carried out at our Tally Ho! Training Centre
- Combines classroom learning with practical instruction

Front-Line Experience:
- Spend the majority of your probation working alongside experienced officers in operational roles
- Gain hands-on practical experience under supervision

Ongoing Support:
- Engage in mentoring and coaching to ensure rapid development
- Progress from Basic Training to becoming a fully competent Police Constable

Future Opportunities (After Probation):
- Explore promotion and specialisations across the Force, including:
- Firearms Unit
- Dogs (K9)
- Roads Policing
- Complex Investigations
- Drones (Aerial Policing)

⚠️ Note: This is not a direct Detective route. After completing initial training, you may apply to join the internal Detective Academy pathway.

Salary & Career Progression
- Starting salary: £31,164.00 (rising annually to up to £50,256.00 in seven years)
- Progress toward higher-paid specialisms and leadership roles

Who Can Apply?
Prerequisites & Education Requirements
You must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Formal Qualifications
- Level 2 English (Grade C/4 or above) AND
- Either:
- Level 3 qualification (or equivalent), e.g., 2 A-levels
- 12 months of police-related experience (e.g., Special Constable, PCSO, Detention Officer)
Acceptable Police & Care Experience
- Special Constable or PCSO (Police Community Support Officer)
- PSI (Primary School Inspector) / PSIO (Public Services Inspector Extraordinary)
- Detention or Escort Officers
- 12+ months as a Prison Officer
- 12+ months as a frontline NHS role providing patient care (e.g., Healthcare Assistant, Ambulance Technician)
- 12+ months in social services providing direct care to young or vulnerable individuals (e.g., fostering or social worker)
Alternative Pathway
- 18 months’ current military service, in lieu of the Level 3 qualification

Key Requirements
Fitness, Medical & Vetting
- Must meet bleep test requirement: 5.4 (minimum standard)
- Must pass medical checks, which may include:
- Drug and alcohol-testing
- Fitness assessments
- Must undergo vetting checks (written vetting requirements)

Residency & Nationality
- Must have lived in the UK for the past three years
- Must be one of the following:
- British, Irish, or EEA national
- Hold right to work in the UK without restrictions
⚠️ Availability: At least two sessions available each month (daily pattern) for interviews.
