Police Constable Recruitment – Operational Officer Role
Join us as an operational officer in this unique and dynamic role with evolving responsibilities and constant change. You’ll need to be highly adaptable, ready to think quickly, and capable of acting decisively in fast-moving situations.

Salary
Starting salary: £31,164 (progression to £50,256 within 7 years), with annual increments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide initial and ongoing frontline response to incidents, including complex, confrontational situations, assessing risk and delivering a proportionate response in line with law, policy, and guidance.
- Lead localised partnerships to solve problems, engage with communities, and collaborate with organisations, groups, and individuals based on the Force’s planned approach.
- Engage effectively with victims, witnesses, suspects, and vulnerable persons, ensuring equal consideration for diversity and human rights, while providing support, connecting them to services, building relationships, and gathering evidence to prevent and reduce crime.
- Maintain vigilance for risks and vulnerabilities, taking proactive steps to protect individuals and minimise harm.
- Conduct time-sensitive and high-volume investigations, ensuring adherence to investigation standards for robust case files and justice proceedings.
- Collect, analyse, and manage information, intelligence, and evidence from diverse sources, acting in line with legal and procedural guidelines to support investigations, law enforcement, and criminal justice.

Essential Eligibility: You Must Meet One of the Following
- Two A-level qualifications (or equivalent Level 3 qualification in any subject) or currently enrolled in your final year of study.
- Present serving Police Community Support Officer (PCSO):
- Completed professional development plan.
- Passed probationary period at the time of application.
- Up to date with all mandatory training.
- Present serving Special Constable:
- Achieved independent patrol status.
- Maintaining a minimum of 16 hours/week service.
- Up to date with all mandatory training.
- Present serving Investigative Support Assistant (ISA):
- Completed Leicestershire Police ISA training course.
- Passed probationary period at the time of application.
- Hold 12+ months of service in the role.

- Valid driving licence (by the pre-employment stage – typically 14–16 weeks before cohort start).
