About the Role
The SEROCU Intelligence Development Unit is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence, using both overt and covert means, to combat serious and organised crime within the South-East region. We do this by working in partnership with forces, other law enforcement agencies as well as other capabilities within SEROCU.
We are looking for officers with an investigative mindset who like detail, are patient, have a passion for uncovering information, takes pride in producing clear and concise written reports and who is willing to change shifts at short notice if needed. They will also need to have a good understanding of the National Intelligence Model as well as current intelligence gradings and handling conditions. Previous experience in surveillance, proactive, intelligence or investigation at any level is desirable but not essential.
We offer the opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge within the intelligence arena and will support you in achieving the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme qualification (if not already qualified) which you are required to obtain as part of this role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
