Policy Adviser

Policy Adviser – Policy Impact Unit, Faculty of Engineering Sciences

About us

Good policy is informed by good evidence. The Policy Impact Unit (PIU) collaborates with researchers in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FES) at UCL to design bespoke policy engagement strategies that deliver real impact. Using innovative and adaptive approaches, the PIU makes policy engagement accessible for researchers and increases the use of UCL research in the policymaking process.

About the role

We are seeking a Policy Adviser to work closely with UCL academics, translating their research into policy-relevant insights and identifying meaningful policy implications. The role involves proactive engagement with policymakers across key areas, including:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Robotics

About you

Key responsibilities and qualities:

  • Excellent communicator – Skilled in both verbal and written communication.
  • Proven policy experience – Strong understanding of the policy landscape, able to recognise and seize opportunities for engagement.
  • Policymaker awareness – "Speak the language of policymakers", breaking down complex research findings into actionable insights.
  • Event design expertise – Experience in organising or managing policy engagement events.
  • Interface specialist – Keenness to bridge the gap between academic research and policy-making, particularly in technology policy.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
