Policy Advisor – Cancer Prevention
£35,000 - £42,000 per annum plus benefits
Reports to: Prevention Policy Manager Grade: P2 Location: Stratford, London (High Flex – 1–2 days per week in office) Contract: Fixed-term (until May 2027) Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) Closing date: 5 July 2026, 23:55
About the Role
At Cancer Research UK, prevention is one of our most powerful weapons against cancer. We’re seeking a Policy Advisor to shape policies that reduce cancer risk and save lives by driving impactful change across the UK policy landscape.
As a prevention-focused policy specialist, you’ll translate evidence into action—developing strategies, influencing decision-makers, and strengthening collaborations to lower cancer burden.

Key Responsibilities
Policy Development & Advocacy
- Monitor the UK policy landscape to identify gaps and opportunities
- Develop evidence-based policy positions with a focus on cancer prevention
- Draft policy briefings, consultation responses and high-impact statements
- Engage with government, policymakers, and stakeholders to influence decisions

Collaborative & Strategic Work
- Support leadership on prevention strategies at Cancer Research UK
- Collaborate with researchers, healthcare professionals, and policy partners
- Ensure alignment between evidence, strategy, and real-world impact
Requirements
- Analytical prowess – Ability to synthesise complex evidence for policy purposes
- Excellent communication skills – Clarity in writing (briefings to detailed reports)
- Strong UK policy understanding – Familiarity with political and decision-making processes
- Time management – Juggle competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Influencing ability – Conviction to advocate effectively with senior stakeholders
- Collaborative mindset – Thrives in cross-team and cross-organisational partnerships
Essential: Experience in UK public policy, health policy, or related fields preferred.
