Policy and Public Affairs Manager
Policy and Public Affairs Manager – Permanent, Full-Time (35 hrs/week)
About the Role The Policy and Public Affairs Manager at National Children’s Bureau (NCB) will be a key driver in shaping credibility and influencing policy decisions nationwide. This role ensures that robust policy insights translate into actionable strategies, helping to advocate for systemic improvements in child welfare, legislation, and evidence-based solutions. The position will also lead projects, manage income-generation efforts, and represent NCB as a sector thought leader.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy Influence and Advocacy
- Develop and implement policy strategies that improve the lives of children and families.
- Collaborate with government, stakeholders, and decision-makers to advocate for change.
- Enhance NCB’s profile as a substantive voice in national debates on childhood issues.
- Ensure evidence-driven policy recommendations are overtly actionable.
Project Management & Delivery
- Lead and deliver funded projects, ensuring alignment with NCB’s mission and strategy.
- Oversee project planning, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Actively contribute to proposal development for future funding opportunities.

Public Affairs & External Engagement
- Strengthen NCB’s influence by shaping narrative and media engagement.
- Represent NCB at external forums, events, and interviews to amplify our voice.
- Monitor policy trends and ensure reactivity in advocating for children’s rights.

Requirements
- Strong background in public policy, advocacy, or related roles.
- Proven ability to influence policymakers and navigate complex decision-making processes.
- Experience in policy analysis, research, and strategy development.
- Excellent communication skills for high-stakes stakeholder engagements.
- Project management experience, with an ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Ideally knowledge of UK children’s welfare systems, legislation, and charity sector dynamics.
