Are you interested in working in policy or public affairs?

Are you passionate about driving change in government, promoting British Heart Foundation's (BHF) mission to fund lifesaving research and advocating for the 400,000 people living across Wales with cardiovascular disease?

If so, you may be the Policy and Public Affairs Officer we need!

About the role

Our BHF Policy and Public Affairs team exists to build support amongst key decision makers so that we can beat heart disease for good. We develop BHF’s policy position and engage and influence stakeholders to help stop heart disease before it starts, save lives and support those living with heart disease to live longer, healthier lives.

In this role, you’ll promote BHF to politicians, civil servants, researchers and the clinical community in Wales, helping to ensure that key decision-makers consider BHF the expert on heart health and research.

You’ll influence the Welsh Government and other key stakeholders on our influencing priorities, making cardiovascular disease a priority in Wales as well as ensure Wales has an environment which supports excellence in heart research.

Working arrangements

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our Cardiff Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

About you

With knowledge and understanding of the political environment in Wales, you’ll also have knowledge of the workings and processes of devolved government in Wales.

You’ll join BHF Cymru at an exciting time for both the charity and heart health in Wales and will play a key role in the work BHF does and the impact it is having on the lives of everyone in Wales and the UK.

To be successful in this role you’ll have the following skills and experience:

  • An interest in working in policy and/or public affairs in Wales
  • A willingness to learn and implement effective methods of engaging with, and influencing, political stakeholders or other senior audiences
  • Be able to produce clear, concise written communication in a variety of formats for a variety of audiences
  • Experience of leading own pieces of work to delivery by deadline

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
