JOB DETAILS
About the Startup Coalition
Startup Coalition is an independent advocacy group that serves as the policy voice for technology-led start ups and scaleups in the UK. The Startup Coalition was founded by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs and fights for a policy environment that enables early-stage British tech companies to grow, scale and compete globally.
We have over 4,000 startups in our network and have been instrumental in building proactive coalitions of businesses and investors on issues that are integral to the health of the UK’s startup ecosystem. Our work has seen many successes, from the design and establishment of the Future Fund to the creation of new technology-focused visas, the raising of the SEIS investor and investee caps, and the expansion of R&D tax credits.
The Role
This role will sit at the intersection of technology innovation and regulation at an exciting time where the future is up for grabs for whichever state enables and encourages it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Keeping track of parliamentary comings and goings as it relates to technology regulation. From primary legislation to select committee inquiries - this role will require the holder to keep abreast of not just hard legislation but the ‘parliamentary mood’ when it comes to tech regulation. Becoming a dab hand at looking round the corner. Innovation is moving faster than ever before. At every turn our startups run into regulatory traps and barriers from a byzantine time. It’ll be your role to understand what these regulatory dead ends look like (ideally before our startups hit them) and work with officials and parliamentarians to find the solutions our firms need to keep growing. Ensuring startup voices are heard. This means making sure that all relevant Government and regulatory consultations are responded to, that Startup Coalition is featured in relevant press, and that we are represented at conferences and events. Building an industry-leading campaign machine. We are just scratching the surface of the opportunity, with significant room to grow the work. We are on the hunt for someone with the appetite to build campaigns and develop a policy agenda that can take us through this Parliament and beyond. Chip in on everything else. We run a small operation, so everyone works together to deliver great policy work that helps achieve a policy environment that enables tech startups and scaleups to grow and scale effectively.
