Make a difference at the heart of South Yorkshire

This is a rare opportunity to work at the centre of public life in South Yorkshire, supporting Kilvinder Vigurs, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime and Equalities Commissioner, in a fast-paced, high-profile role.

As Policy & Support Officer, you will be at the heart of the Deputy Mayor’s office—ensuring everything runs smoothly, enabling informed decision-making, and helping deliver priorities that matter to communities across the region.

Working closely on a policing, crime and equalities portfolio, you will support activity that contributes to safer communities, stronger partnerships, and improved outcomes for residents across South Yorkshire—helping make a tangible difference to people’s safety, supporting victims, and building trust and confidence in the services that protect our communities.

If you’re highly organised, politically aware, and thrive in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same, we’d love to hear from you.

Applications must be accompanied by a cover letter to detail how you meet the criteria as detailed within the role profile. (please see role profile attached). Please note, all applications should be made directly via our careers portal.

Please note this role is subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check and successful NPPV3 vetting.

Please note, this is a deemed as a ‘sensitive’ politically restricted post. The effect of the designation in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 prevents employees from having any active political role either in or outside the workplace.

About The Role

You’ll provide proactive, professional and confidential support to the Deputy Mayor, helping her operate effectively in a demanding and high-profile environment.

Working as part of the central business support team, you will form part of a tight-knit senior support team, working closely with the Deputy Mayor’s Partnership Portfolio Officer to coordinate activity, align priorities, and ensure the smooth flow of information across the office and wider organisation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
