The Borgen Project is an international non-profit organisation working at the political level to improve living conditions for people impacted by war, famine, and poverty. With 20 years of experience in advocacy, The Borgen Project has worked to support legislation benefiting close to 500 million people in developing countries.

Role: Political Affairs Programme

This part-time, unpaid, remote 12-hour/week position runs for 12 weeks (adjustable if needed). You’ll help integrate poverty reduction into U.S., Canadian, and U.K. foreign policy.

No prior experience needed—only your passion for ending global poverty.


Responsibilities

Your work would include:

  • Leading public and political advocacy in your state/district.
  • Meeting with Members of Congress, government officials, and policymakers.
  • Representing The Borgen Project at business, political, and community events.
  • Supporting fundraising—building a personal fundraising campaign and meeting targets.
  • Mobilising individuals to contact elected officials in support of poverty-reduction legislation.
  • Speaking to groups, classes, and organisations about advocacy efforts.
  • Writing letters of support for key programs to politicians, media outlets, and NGOs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • No prior experience required—your passion for ending global poverty matters more than professional background.
  • Collegiate or university students, recent graduates, and professionals passionate about social change are encouraged to apply.

Programme Details

  • Unpaid position, but college credit is available through our partnership.
  • Flexible schedule: 12 hours/week over 12 weeks, but you can complete it faster.
  • Start immediately: New programme cohorts begin each month—set your own timeline.
