Political Assistant (Green Group)

Political Assistant – Green Group & Minority Group Support (Contract Only)

Starting salary

PO3 (£45,750 – £49,056)

Contract details

  • Work location: George Meehan House, 294 High Road, Wood Green, N22 8XY
  • Hours per week: 36
  • Contract type: Fixed term (until September 2027)
  • Closing date for applications: Monday 13th July 2026 at 23:59
  • Expected interview week: Week commencing 20th July 2026

About The Role

Haringey Council’s Green Group and Minority Group Administration is seeking a Political Assistant to support 28 councillors, including:

  • Group Leaders (Leader and Deputy Leaders)

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will:

  • Provide diverse administrative and political support, assisting with:
    • Policy briefings
    • External communications
    • Forward planning
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills across all platforms:
    • Oral (face-to-face, meetings)
    • Written (emails, reports)
    • Digital & social media engagement

Note: The role will require evening meeting attendance with time off in lieu or overtime pay.

Legislative & Conduct Compliance

  • Must work within Haringey Council’s Constitution & Officer Code of Conduct.
  • Subject to Local Government & Housing Act 1989 and Local Authority Political Assistance Guidance (2021).

About You – Key Requirements

We are seeking a proactive, politically aware individual with:

Essential Skills & Knowledge

✔ Excellent time management and ability to prioritise multiple tasks ✔ Clear interest in local Green Party politics and council governance ✔ Understanding of current challenges facing local government, with a commitment to improving services ✔ Experience (or strong interest) in local government structures, including:

  • Councillor support
  • External stakeholder liaison (citizens, MPs, partners) ✔ Strong ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to varied audiences
