Port Planner – Ports & Maritime Team (UK)
About the Role
We are looking for a Port Planner to join the Ports & Maritime team based in the UK, with flexibility to operate from any WSP UK office (preference for London, Basingstoke and Newcastle).
This role invites you to contribute to globally significant projects, supporting the development of masterplans, feasibility studies, operational audits and due diligence assignments—bootstrapping greenfield and brownfield port and marine facilities.
The opportunity spans containers, breakbulk, dry bulk, liquid bulk and energy-transition-focused infrastructure, working with global clients including emerging offshore wind ports.
A supportive team will guide and mentor you whilst collaborating across teams—*engineering, environmental, maritime advisory—to shape a career aligned with your ambitions.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate and align with client organisations to deliver projects and achieve client goals
- Coordinate between disciplines and project stakeholders to ensure cohesion (e.g. Master Plan & Terminal Planning)
- Lead masterplan layouts, terminal operational audits, and capacity analysis for due diligence & peer reviews
- Develop business plans, comprehensive reports, and digital solutions using WSP’s proprietary port planning tool PRIME (training provided)
- Support marketing and promotion of WSP’s maritime services while fostering internal collaboration
- Proactively seek client relationships with assistance from Key Client Managers

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
