At Stena Line, our Birkenhead Port Operations Team plays a vital role in keeping freight moving and communities connected across the Irish Sea. We're looking for dependable, safety-focused individuals to join our permanent night shift team, helping ensure our vessels are loaded, unloaded and turned around safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on operational role where you'll work behind the wheel of specialist port equipment and as part of a close-knit team that keeps our overnight operations running smoothly.
Whether your experience comes from transport, logistics, agriculture, warehousing or heavy vehicle operations, this is an opportunity to build a long-term career with one of Europe's leading ferry companies.
What You'll Be Doing
- Safely operate a Tugmaster to transfer trailers on and off vessels.
- Assist with vessel loading, unloading and mooring operations.
- Marshal freight vehicles within the port environment.
- Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping and operational efficiency.
- Follow established operational procedures and safe systems of work.
- Undertake training on new equipment and processes as required.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth overnight port operations.

- 21:00 – 07:00, Tuesday to Friday
Working a consistent overnight schedule provides predictability and stability, allowing you to plan your time outside of work with confidence while benefiting from a regular long weekend.
What We're Looking For
You are someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and thrives in an operational environment. Safety is second nature to you, and you're comfortable working both independently and as part of a team during night operations.
We're particularly interested in candidates with experience operating large vehicles or machinery, including:
- HGVs
- Tugmasters
- Agricultural machinery
- Plant equipment
- Other large commercial vehicles
You'll also have:
- A full, clean driving licence.
- Strong communication skills.
- A positive and reliable approach to teamwork.
- A commitment to safe working practices.
- Previous experience in logistics, transport or port operations (desirable but not essential).

This permanent position is based at 12 Quays, Birkenhead, within our Ports & Terminals department.
Successful candidates will participate in a dedicated 4-5 week training programme, delivered by our experienced in-house trainers, ensuring you have the skills and confidence to succeed in the role.
