Portal Facilitator
Portal Facilitator – Birmingham (Shared Studios)
Shared Studios is launching its iconic gold shipping container Portal in Birmingham as part of the “Frankfurt connects Sister Cities Dialogue” project, offering an immersive, interconnected experience for cross-cultural dialogue and meaningful exchange.
About the Role
Portals are life-size, immersive video spaces fostering real-time conversations between participants in different cities. As a Portal Facilitator, you’ll:
- Guide engaging, thought-provoking conversations using Shared Studios’ methods.
- Manage technical and logistical support for Portal sessions.
- Capture and share content while ensuring a welcoming and enriching experience for all participants.
Training will be provided in Shared Studios’ facilitation approach and Portal operations.
Job Details
- Type: Short-term contract
- Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom
- Duration: July – December 2026 (flexible hours based on project needs)
- Start date: Immediately
- Pay: Competitive hourly rate (based on experience)
Key Responsibilities
Engagement & Facilitation
- Work with guest and participant selection, ensuring diverse and inclusive representation.
- Use prompts to stimulate open dialogue, navigating sensitive or challenging moments with care.
- Maintain a friendly, inclusive, and supporting atmosphere during sessions.

Content Creation & Documentation
- Document experiences through photos and video footage of Portal interactions.
- Extract interviews and testimonials from participants.
Ideal Candidate
Experience & Skills
- Previous experience in:
- Cross-cultural facilitation
- Event crowd management, live or digital settings
- Avatar/social AV spaces, if any
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict navigation skills.
- Native-level English proficiency; conversational German a plus.
- Comfortable with unconventional technical environments (e.g., remote connections, live interactions).
Logistics & Tech Readiness
- Availability to work on short notice, weekends, and evenings based on Portal hours.
- Self-sufficient with handling technical documentation and troubleshooting basic AV issues (avance inputs/outputs, cables, signal flow).
- Physically capable of moving/lifting AV equipment (foo-boxes, cameras).
