Portfolio Analyst
The Transformation Portfolio Analyst is an essential position in the Portfolio Management team, which is part of the Transformation & Capital Allocation function at Royal Mail. The role is tasked with providing and continuously improving portfolio governance, assurance, insights and reporting across the Royal Mail investment portfolio. This role is central to enabling and driving the success of the Transformation portfolio, providing full oversight and transparency of the complexities and inter-dependencies across the programmes and projects within it.
Key Accountabilities
- Work directly with the PMO and business unit teams to set and maintain the standards of portfolio governance across Royal Mail.
- Oversee a comprehensive portfolio-level risk management process, identifying and assessing risks and issues at the Transformation portfolio level and working with business unit leaders to develop and track mitigation plans and provide appropriate structured reporting.
- Actively engage with senior leadership, project sponsors and other key stakeholders to gather feedback on portfolio insights and emerging risks.
- Identify and track key dependencies, risks and delivery constraints across the portfolio, acting as an early warning mechanism to support proactive and informed escalation.
- Analyse portfolio performance data to identify trends, emerging risks and improvement opportunities, providing portfolio assurance and delivery confidence to senior leadership.
- Responsible for producing executive-level reporting and portfolio insights for the Executive Board and other senior leadership forums, offering vital insights into Transformation portfolio progress and performance to enable informed decision-making on portfolio health.
- Support with ongoing and ad-hoc project work and be the point of contact within the Transformation & Capital Allocation team for Internal Audit – coordinating and supporting audit work and following up on any actions.
- Role model our leadership behaviours, building trust with our people across the organisation, and as part of the wider leadership community.

Skills Needed
- Project management certification or proven experience in P3O management, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a similar role.
- Proven experience in planning and cross-functional analysis.
- Ability to interpret complex and vast portfolio information and translate it into clear, actionable insight for senior stakeholders.
- Excellent Excel & PowerPoint skills, with the ability to create and present visuals and storyboards to be presented at an Executive Board level.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous situations and effectively communicate.
- Collaborative working style, able to manage and influence senior stakeholders.
About You
- Experience in a Business Intelligence, Reporting Analyst or Data Analytics role.
- Strong Power BI and advanced Excel skills.
- Proven experience designing and developing dashboards and reporting solutions.
- Excellent analytical skills with a strong focus on data quality and accuracy.
- The ability to present complex data in a clear, engaging and decision-focused way.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working with portfolio, programme or project data (Planview experience is desirable).
