Role Overview
This high-impact opportunity is part of IMI’s Global Climate Control Sector (£400m+ revenue), hiring across Europe with a flexible remote work option (provided the candidate resides in a country where IMI has a presence).
Key Accountability
You’ll shape the commercial strategy, product direction, and market expansion for IMI’s Commercial Buildings Portfolio, collaborating with: ✔ Manufacturing teams ✔ Sourcing and engineering/R&D ✔ C-level executives and sales leaders
Primary goals:
- Portfolio leadership: Execute growth strategies to maximise organic revenue and market share.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Bridge technology and customer needs in alignment with sector requirements.
- Strategic ownership: Define target markets, develop roadmaps, and drive profitability through disciplined decision-making.

What You’ll Do
1. Strategy & Portfolio Execution
- Define and execute a high-growth Commercial Buildings strategy, balancing financial returns with long-term market alignment.
- Conduct proactive competitive and market analysis to spot emerging opportunities.
- Apply core marketing frameworks: segmentation, targeting, positioning, value management, and pricing optimisation.
- Contribute to sector-wide strategy and commercial plans, including budget shaping and roadmapping.
- Lead Product Development: Align new products with customer demand alongside R&D, supplier teams, and Sales, ensuring scalable, profitable innovation.

2. Portfolio Lifecycle Management
- Own the commercial positioning of the portfolio, ensuring market differentiation.
- Oversee the full product lifecycle: from ideation/launch to maturation and phase-out.
- Dynamic roadmap management: Collaborate with regional teams to ensure new products align with customer willingness to pay.
- Apply portfolio vitality techniques (80/20 rule) to streamline offerings, prioritising high-growth solutions.
- Develop and implement data-driven pricing strategies, adjusted regionally and by channel.
3. Offering and Market Leadership
- Translate technical innovation into clear, customer-facing value propositions—acting as the bridge between Engineering and Sales.
- Lead product launches with Customer Marketing and Sales to ensure maximum market adoption.
- Improve Voice of Customer (VoC) initiatives: Capture insights from field teams and integrate feedback into strategy.
- Develop sales enablers: Shop-floor materials, pricing analysis, and Go-To-Market tools to accelerate customer orders.
- Drive portfolio financial results: Focus on revenue growth, gross margin, and end-of-life portfolio simplification.
What You Bring
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or relevant equivalent work experience; EMBA/MBA preferred).
Experience & Skills
Strategic & Portfolio Expertise
- 5+ years in product management, product development, or B2B commercial leadership, preferably in engineered-industrial markets (machinery, automation, fluid systems, etc.).
- Strong RFP/broker engagement experience and ability to influence at regional and senior leadership levels.
Core Competencies
- Sharp commercial acumen: Experience growing product portfolios with measurable ROI growth.
- Customer obsession: Passion for solving market pain points and driving adoption in complex selling cycles.
- Strategic contingency planning: Agile mindset to pivot mid-project based on market trends.
- Executive presentation skills: Ability to articulate data-driven decisions to senior stakeholders.
- Cross-functional alignment: Comfortable negotiating with Engineering, Sales, Finance, and Operations.
