About The Role
This is a newly created position within our growing finance team, with a distinct focus: supporting the accounting and compliance for our CEO's external investment portfolio, while also helping with the day-to-day running of the Tropic accounts. It is a varied role that combines monthly management accounts and reporting with investment oversight and hands-on transactional work, giving the right person broad exposure across the finance function and good scope to develop. You’ll also be encouraged to make good use of AI tools as part of the way we work, helping the team work more efficiently across both the portfolio and the wider accounts.
Key Responsibilities
Investment portfolio
- Maintain accurate accounting records for the CEO's external investments.
- Ensure each investment is accounted for in line with the relevant accounting and compliance requirements.
- Reconcile investment-related transactions and balances.
- Prepare clear, regular summaries on the position and performance of the portfolio.
- Liaise with external advisers and investee company contacts as needed.
Tropic finance support
- Carry out bank reconciliations across company accounts.
- Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts.
- Support month-end close, including accruals, prepayments and journals.
- Prepare the monthly management accounts, including supporting commentary and variance analysis against budget and prior periods.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis to support decision-making across the business.
- Work closely with the wider finance team on day-to-day accounting tasks.
- Make use of AI tools to support day-to-day accounting work — for example, drafting and checking reconciliations, summarising data, and speeding up routine tasks — always with appropriate review and care over accuracy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
