Job Description

Job title: Portfolio Manager

Salary: up to £60k (negotiable) + car allowance + other benefits

Location: hybrid in Reading

Vargo is seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager for an international financial services business. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of funding clients, ensuring strong customer relationships, effective risk management, and long-term facility performance. This role combines client relationship management, portfolio oversight, team leadership, and commercial decision-making within a fast-paced funding environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop relationships across a portfolio of clients, identifying opportunities to enhance customer engagement, retention, and overall facility performance.
  • Support and guide operational colleagues to ensure a high standard of service delivery across assigned accounts.
  • Carry out regular portfolio reviews with Client Managers, evaluating client performance, facility utilisation, and potential risk exposures.
  • Contribute to the achievement of individual and team targets, supporting performance improvement and professional development initiatives.
  • Assist with business development activities, including engagement with prospective clients and oversight of new client onboarding processes.
  • Attend client meetings and site visits, facilitating successful onboarding and ensuring a seamless handover from sales to relationship management.
  • Assess financial and operational information such as sales ledgers, contractual agreements, management accounts, and cashflow projections to determine funding suitability and risk levels.
  • Handle client concerns and complaints professionally, ensuring issues are escalated appropriately and managed in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Discuss and agree funding arrangements, pricing structures, and facility amendments that support both client needs and commercial objectives.
  • Provide cover and operational assistance during periods of absence within the team to maintain service quality and compliance standards.
  • Implement appropriate risk management strategies, including recovery plans and exit processes where necessary.
  • Establish and maintain trusted client relationships, acting as a key point of contact and delivering a consistently high level of customer service.

  • Experience working within Invoice Finance, Asset-Based Lending, or the wider Financial Services sector.
  • Proven background in managing customer relationships within a lending or funding environment.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coaching operational teams, including Credit Control professionals.
  • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to identify, assess, and manage risk effectively.
  • Strong analytical ability with confidence interpreting financial information and data.
