Portfolio Manager - England

Portfolio Manager – Substations (South Westregion)

Role Overview

At M Group Energy, we’re driving the future of essential infrastructure—from transmission and renewables to decarbonisation. This role requires a Portfolio Manager to play a strategic lead in our Transmission & Renewables team, overseeing substation projects across the South West (England). You’ll be responsible for ensuring safe, on-time, budget-conscious, and high-quality delivery of substation assets while embedding a culture of continuous improvement.

This isn’t just maintenance—it’s renewal, reimagining, and enabling the energy our world depends on. With a focus on personal growth, collaboration, and exceeding expectations, you’ll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact.

The Opportunity

Our Transmission & Renewables teams design, built and commission substations up to 400kV, construction and maintenance of transmission lines, and ensure reliable electricity delivery. This role is about defining and driving progress—coordinating multiple substation projects (new builds, upgrades, refurbishments) while building robust governance, risk management, and stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Define and execute a portfolio strategy aligned with business objectives, regulatory commitments, and long-term capital investment plans.
  • Prioritise projects based on risk, value, resources, and regulatory obligations to optimise outcomes.
  • Lead cost forecasting, budget management, and KPI tracking across the portfolio.
  • Establish governance frameworks (stakeholder engagement, transparent reporting, and risk escalation protocols).

Project Delivery

  • Oversee delivery performance across multiple substations, ensuring adherence to safety standards, industry practices, and NEC contracts (or equivalents).
  • Monitor and address performance gaps, whether timelines, budgets, or technical risks.
  • Champion a zero-tolerance safety culture at every stage of project execution.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
