Portfolio Manager - Freelance AI Trainer

About the Role

Mindrift connects specialists with project-based AI opportunities—working exclusively on testing, evaluating, and improving AI systems for leading tech companies. This is not permanent employment; each engagement is needs-driven and time-bound.

In this role, you’ll provide expert financial review services to evaluate AI-driven financial platforms and processes. Responsibilities include rigorous testing and scenario-based validation—ensuring AI systems align with regulatory compliance, investment strategy rigour, and real-world financial implications.


Key Responsibilities

On any given project, you’ll likely take on tasks across the following areas. Our contributors design and execute complex financial test cases:

  • Quarterly Business Review (QBR) Validation

    • Distil performance vs. benchmark metrics.
    • Assess allocation drift against IPS tolerance bands.
    • Verify fund documentation changes for material impact.
  • Tax Optimization & Risk Mitigation Scenarios

    • Craft rebalancing and tax-loss harvesting test cases covering:
      • Cost basis calculations.
      • Short-term vs. long-term capital gains.
      • Wash-sale rule compliance.

  • Investment Suitability Testing

    • Construct scenarios evaluating:
      • Client risk tolerance alignment with their Investment Policy Statement (IPS).
      • Time horizon suitability.
      • Prohibited holdings and concentration controls.
  • Fee Analysis Benchmarking

    • Build fee-stack comparison cases, including:
      • Portfolio-weighted expense ratios.
      • Advisory fees.
      • All-in cost analysis against category benchmarks.
  • Documentation Standards

    • Write clarity-first test case descriptions with:
      • Verified numerical calculations.
      • Policy citations (e.g., SEC Guidelines, Regulatory Frameworks).
      • Correct answers for study tanks of prospective AI outputs.

Your aim is to uncover AI errors, inconsistencies, or ambiguities—bridging gaps between theoretical rules and practical risks.


Ideal Profile

This role suits individuals with hands-on experience in investment strategy, financial advisory, or related disciplines. Key qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, or a relevant field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2+ years in finance, investment management, accounting, or financial advisory.
    • Prior advisory or manager-level roles, or deeper technical work tied to portfolio analysis.
  • Domain-Specific Knowledge:
    • Portfolio performance attribution fluency.
    • Tax-lot accounting and wash-sale rule expertise.
    • Proficiency with Investment Policy Statements (IPS) and related due-diligence frameworks.
  • Credentials (a safe plus):
    • CFA, CFP, CPWA, CIMA, or CIPM designation.
    • Chartered or professional certifications welcome (financial services track).
  • English Proficiency: C1+ level ( verlified written communication across technical terrain).

How the Process Works

Time Commitment

During active phases, engagement will require 10–20 hours per week depending on project needs. These are approximate estimates, reflecting average sprints. Flexibility is key—gaps in workload, onboarding, or scope shifting are accomodated.

Compensation

Earning for this unit is estimated at $60/hour equivalent (based on contribution level, pace, and specificity).

Note: Payouts vary by project, weighted against operator skills, niche focus, and demonstrated results. Our platform matches earning tiers to project complexity.


Remuneration is processed as per Mindrift’s compensation schedule for project-based specialists.
