Job Description: Portfolio Manager

My client is an established and entrepreneurial Debt Fund that provides complex investment and development finance loans across the UK and Europe. They are recruiting for an experienced Portfolio Manager role to focus on investment loans (resi and commercial) with an overview of development loans.

Overview

This role is suited to a professional with strong experience in loan documentation, credit governance, and day-to-day portfolio management across real estate debt investments. A solid understanding of LMA-based loan agreements and familiarity with loan servicing workflows is essential.

You will manage loans from closing through to full repayment, including amendments, restructurings, waivers, extensions, refinancing processes, and ongoing credit monitoring. The role requires close coordination with third-party cash managers, facility agents, legal advisers, borrowers, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate transaction execution and ongoing portfolio integrity.

Responsibilities

Legal Documentation & Compliance

  • Review, interpret, and apply LMA-based and bespoke loan documentation.
  • Manage all borrower requests requiring documentation actions, including:
    • Drawdowns and utilisations
    • Prepayments
    • Consents and waivers
    • Amendments and covenant resets
  • Track and ensure satisfaction of all conditions precedent and subsequent.
  • Coordinate with underwriting teams and external counsel to ensure efficient and accurate progression of legal processes and transaction changes.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Evaluate periodic valuations, property monitoring reports, and compliance certificates.
  • Monitor loan performance using key metrics including LTV and ICR.
  • Prepare clear and concise materials for Credit Committee and other governance forums, covering:
    • Borrower performance
    • Covenant compliance
    • Amendment/waiver requests
    • Risk considerations
  • Maintain a strong understanding of internal credit workflows and ensure adherence to policy, controls, and delegated authorities.
  • Support periodic loan reviews and contribute to portfolio-level reporting to senior management and investment committees.
  • Identify emerging risks or performance deterioration and escalate appropriately through the credit process.
  • Prepare regular reporting for investors, senior management, and other stakeholders, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Maintain internal systems to ensure accurate representation of loan and portfolio data.
  • Liaise with internal teams including origination, underwriting, operations, finance, and senior leadership to ensure cohesive portfolio management.

  • Act as a key liaison with operations teams and third-party cash managers/facility agents to ensure smooth operational management of each loan.
  • Oversee the processing of:
    • Interest and fee payments
    • Drawdowns and utilisations
    • Scheduled and unscheduled repayments
    • Cashflow waterfalls and cash sweeps
    • Reserve account movements

What you will Bring

Preferred Background

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in real estate debt, loan servicing, credit portfolio management, or asset management within a bank, debt fund, or private lender.
  • Strong experience working with LMA documentation and full loan lifecycle processes.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing materials for Credit Committees or equivalent governance bodies.

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced understanding of loan documentation and legal concepts in real estate lending.
  • Strong analytical skills, with confidence evaluating financial and operational data.
  • Excellent stakeholder management across internal teams, borrowers, agents, and external advisers.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of portfolio/asset management systems is advantageous.
  • High degree of accuracy, organisation, and ability to operate and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Salary: up to £90k depending on experience

Location: London (4 days in the office)
