Portfolio & Model Manager, Level 4
Location: London/Belfast | Hybrid: 3 days in-office per week

About the Role
The UK Portfolio Management Unit (PMU) supports AIB UK’s strategic objectives by delivering timely, high-quality portfolio oversight, insightful reporting, and forward-looking risk assessments across the credit book.
This is a senior hands-on role responsible for shaping the Models & Data agenda. You’ll lead strategic direction, develop teams, and drive efficiencies in how data, analytics, and risk models support portfolio management, regulatory submissions, governance, and business decision-making.
Key focus areas include:
- Credit modelling (IRB, grading, IFRS 9, stress testing)
- Data & analytical governance (quality, traceability, reporting consistency)
- Cross-functional collaboration (Credit, Risk, Analytics, Data, Finance, and Group teams)
- Regulatory reporting (ICAAP, EWI, oversight & compliance)
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
🔹 Lead the UK PMU Models & Data agenda, defining priorities for model ownership, data quality, automation, traceability, and analytical capability. 🔹 Develop and mentor a team, building capability in model oversight, data analysis, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.
Model Ownership & Governance
🔹 Act as first-line Model Owner for critical UK credit models:
- IRB approaches (Foundation/Advanced)
- Credit grading models
- IFRS 9 ECL models
- Stress testing frameworks 🔹 Ensure robust governance over:
- Model use, outputs, controls, monitoring, documentation, and evidence
- Regulatory reporting (ICAAP, Basel submissions, individual risk increases)
- Cost-income impacts (PMA, impairmentoding decisions)
Business & Risk Insight
🔹Translate complex model outputs into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders, committees, and regulatory reviews. 🔹Present committee-ready materials, including:
- Model owner updates
- ECL/PMA analysis
- Impairment commentary
- Portfolio deep-dives
- Regulatory-facing reports

Data & Operational Excellence
🔹 Drive improvements in data governance, quality, and controls across:
- Reporting (portfolio oversight, regulatory submissions)
- Model monitoring & ownership
- Automated solutions to reduce manual effort 🔹 Partner with Tech, Data, and Validation teams to embed IA Changes effectively in the UK business.
Stakeholder Engagement
🔹 Represent UK business requirements across the model lifecycle, including development, Validation & AEO (Audit Evidence Review), change oversight, and deployment. 🔹 Collaborate with Group IRB, Credit Strategy, Risk Appetite, and Capital teams to align model updates nationally.
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Experience & Skills
🔸 7+ years’ experience in financial services, ideally in:
- Credit risk, portfolio management, model ownership/ governance, impairment, IFRS 9, capital management, analytics, data, or Risk (with RA/RMA title preferred).
- First-line risk management or regulatory reporting role (especially credit or portfolio-specific functions).
🔸 Deep expertise in credit risk modelling, including:
- IRB (Foundation/Advanced) fundamentals and regulatoryспекts
- IFRS 9 ECL models, PMA approaches
- Stress testing frameworks
- Data-driven impairment methodologies
- PD/LGD/EAD parameters, grading drivers, overlays, and mapping rules
🔸 Familiarity with:
- Model lifecycle management (development → validation → monitoring → change)
- Data lineage, QC frameworks
- BI tools (QlikView, Tableau, Power BI)
- SQL/SAS for data querying
🔸 Proven track record of turning data into clear executive communications, whether for:
- ICAAP/EWI submissions
- Committee narrative (e.g., impairment investment grades)
- External regulators
🔸 Strong analytical mindset with of Excel (advanced modelling) and ability to solve complex puzzles under ambiguity.
