Portfolio Underwriting Specialist at a Leading Lloyd’s Insurer
A fascinating cross-class portfolio underwriting role has opened up within a premier Lloyd’s insurer, reporting directly to the Divisional Head of Innovation and Portfolio Underwriting.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite portfolio-based insurance solutions across diverse distribution channels, including:
- Broker facilities
- Algorithmic platforms
- Consortia
- Coverholders
- Perform in-depth portfolio analysis using actuarial, statistical, and modelling tools
- Identify risk trends and diversification opportunities within portfolios
- Build a pipeline of new underwriting opportunities via proactive engagement with brokers and clients
- Collaborate extensively with internal teams—underwriting, actuarial, compliance, exposure management, and claims—as well as external partners such as:
- MGAs (Managing General Agents)
- Technology and digital platform providers
- Champion innovative and data-driven solutions to drive commercial and operational improvements

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in working within the Lloyd’s market, specifically in underwriting disciplines
- Strong analytical and commercial acumen to assess portfolio risks and opportunities
- Ability to think creatively and challenge conventional approaches
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills for cross-level engagement
- Dedication to continuous improvement, performance excellence, and process optimisation
