Portfolio Underwriting Specialist at a Leading Lloyd’s Insurer

A fascinating cross-class portfolio underwriting role has opened up within a premier Lloyd’s insurer, reporting directly to the Divisional Head of Innovation and Portfolio Underwriting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite portfolio-based insurance solutions across diverse distribution channels, including:
    • Broker facilities
    • Algorithmic platforms
    • Consortia
    • Coverholders
  • Perform in-depth portfolio analysis using actuarial, statistical, and modelling tools
  • Identify risk trends and diversification opportunities within portfolios
  • Build a pipeline of new underwriting opportunities via proactive engagement with brokers and clients
  • Collaborate extensively with internal teams—underwriting, actuarial, compliance, exposure management, and claims—as well as external partners such as:
    • MGAs (Managing General Agents)
    • Technology and digital platform providers
  • Champion innovative and data-driven solutions to drive commercial and operational improvements

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in working within the Lloyd’s market, specifically in underwriting disciplines
  • Strong analytical and commercial acumen to assess portfolio risks and opportunities
  • Ability to think creatively and challenge conventional approaches
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills for cross-level engagement
