Role: Portfolio Underwriting Manager – (Bespoke Non-Standard Products) Location: Central London Salary: £60,000 to £65,000 per annum + 15% Bonus + Company benefits Start: ASAP Working arrangement: hybrid working with 3 days in office 2 days’ work from home

Overview We are supporting a leading Lloyd’s syndicate in the appointment of a Portfolio Underwriting Manager to join their Commercial Motor team. This is a strategic, data-led role, focused on portfolio performance, pricing insight, and underwriting strategy. It offers a clear pathway into product and leadership roles over time. This position would suit an experienced underwriter looking to move away from day-to-day trading into a more analytical, forward-looking role, working closely with pricing and product teams to shape underwriting direction.

The Role You will play a key role in managing and improving the performance of the commercial motor portfolio, using data, insight, and market awareness to support profitable growth. Working closely with Product Managers, Pricing, and Analytics teams, you will contribute to underwriting strategy and help translate performance trends into actionable improvements. This is not a traditional underwriting role. The focus is on portfolio management, insight generation, and strategic input rather than individual risk underwriting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
