Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner
Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner – Adult Learning Disability Health Service (ALDH)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to advance your career within our Adult Learning Disability Health (ALDH) Service, a UK-recognised centre of excellence for specialist learning disability healthcare.
About the Role
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will employ Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies to help adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours achieve:
- Better outcomes
- Increased independence
- Improved quality of life
You will collaborate closely with individuals, families, carers, and partner organisations across three localities, developing and implementing PBS plans, providing practical guidance, and supporting people to engage with mainstream health and community services through person-centred, inclusive practice.
The role also involves:
- Delivering training sessions to families, paid carers, and professionals
- Building trusted relationships using empathy, effective communication, and low-arousal approaches
- Responding confidently in complex scenarios

Key Responsibilities
Behavioural & Care Support
- Work within a multidisciplinary team towards a person-centred approach to:
- Assessing and formulating behaviour plans
- Implementing proactive interventions
- Conduct behavioural observations across diverse environments to inform functional assessments
- Support the implementation of PBS strategies for service users and their care networks
- Facilitate access to mainstream services, advocating for reasonable adjustments when necessary
Training & Education
- Plan and deliver training sessions for:
- Service users
- Families
- Paid carers
- Enhance skills and confidence around effective behaviour support practices
Communication & De-escalation
- Demonstrate empathy in all communications
- Apply de-escalation techniques and low-arousal strategies in challenging situations
- Ensure information is clear, accessible, and meaningful for individuals with learning disabilities
- Challenge and report poor practice as required
