Positive Behaviour Support Worker

Positive Behaviour Support Worker (Complex Care)

Location Ashford, Kent

Contract Temporary (3-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension), full time (37.5 hours per week)

Salary £14.06 per hour (£27,500 per annum)


About the Role

A brilliant opportunity for confident, positive, and open-minded people to join our Transforming Care team, helping a lovely customer with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) live a fulfilling life in his own home within the local community.

  • Our customer enjoys spending time in the garden and venturing out in the community, such as drives and walks.
  • Supports offered include physical activities to help maintain a vibrant and active lifestyle.

Customer Needs & Support

Our customer:

  • Is non-verbal but understands spoken words/phrases.
    • Clear, slow speech may be required due to processing time.
  • Communicates using:
    • Makaton (strong ability to recognise and use some signs; frequently uses "yes" and "thank you").
    • Object of reference (using objects to convey meaning).
    • PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
    • Body language (responds keenly, instilling humour like falls/tickles/funny voices).
  • Responds well to humour and playful interactions.

What You’ll Do

  • Support with daily living, personal care and choices, prioritising customer needs.
  • Collaborate with team, clinical colleagues and families to craft and execute support plans.
  • Recognise strengths and encourage progressive steps—never losing sight of dreams and aspirations.
    • Use Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) models for independent living and social inclusion.
  • Detect changes in health or mood, respond swiftly, and ensure safety for both recipients and team.
  • Ensure varied and enjoyable activities, including garden access and community outings, underpinned by trustful customer engagement.

Your Profile

  • Experience in Complex Care with:
    • Lev 2 Diploma in Adult Health & Social Care (or working towards it).
    • As a Support Worker for individuals with complex needs/behaviours of distress.
  • Person-centred approach, acknowledging customer uniqueness and adaptability.
    • Proficiency in positive risk management to safeguard recipients and colleagues.
  • Familiarity with Makaton is helpful but not essential.
