Overview
AtkinsRéalis is looking for a Possession Planner / Safe System of Work Planner to join our growing Rail Infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating track access, possessions, and isolations to support the safe and efficient delivery of rail projects across the UK.
Working closely with project teams, Network Rail, clients, and operational stakeholders, you will ensure that access requirements are developed, submitted, and managed in line with industry standards, project objectives, and client expectations. You will play a key role in enabling work to be delivered safely, compliantly, and on programme, while supporting AtkinsRéalis' commitment to excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Your role
- Plan and coordinate all track access, possession, and isolation requirements in compliance with Network Rail Standards, Rule Books, and company procedures.
- Submit and manage possession and isolation requests through PPS/GZAC and other relevant planning systems within required timescales.
- Attend possession planning meetings and represent AtkinsRéalis, ensuring project access requirements are communicated effectively.
- Provide accurate track access information to SSOW Planners to support the production of Safe Work Packs (SWPs) in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/019.
- Communicate planning outcomes, changes, and access constraints to project teams and key stakeholders to ensure safe project delivery.
- Support the Practice Manager (Track Access Manager) across multiple projects while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational performance.
About you
- Experience in Track Access Planning, Possession Planning, Rail Operations, or a similar railway infrastructure environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Network Rail Standards, Rule Books, possession planning processes, and safe systems of work.
- Experience using rail planning systems such as PPS, GZAC, or equivalent access planning tools.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple disciplines.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- A proactive commitment to safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement within a rail project environment.

Security clearance
This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
