General Professional Duties
This role is governed under The Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5. Teachers are expected to carry out duties as directed by the Principal, ensuring the professional, ethical, and pastoral development of pupils..
Scope of Responsibilities
- Teaching:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver curriculum-aligned French lessons for Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring positive learning outcomes.
- Teach English at Key Stage 3 when required for coverage.
- Provide assessment, marking, and feedback to support individual pupil development.
- Pastoral & Well-being:
- Promote pupil well-being, discipline, and health/safety in line with school policies.
- Provide advisory and guidance support for pupils on educational and career pathways, including safeguarding concerns when required.
- Assessment & Reporting:
- Contribute to oral and written assessments, progress reports, and public examination preparations.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in staff training, performance reviews, and curriculum development.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage classroom resources, support staff, and coordinate episode/natural cover where necessary.
- Register attendance and act as a supervisor in-school during assembly/general duties.

Working Conditions & Hours
Full-Time Commitment
- Days: Available for 195 days per academic year.
- Include Teaching: Maximum of 190 days actively engaging with pupils.
- Annual Hours:
- Available for 1,265 hours total, excluding prep-time/marking and travel.
- Hourly Workload:
- No more than 23.5 hours per week embedded in classroom teaching (Post-Primary).
- Breaks: Minimum 30-minute break between 12:00-14:00.
Eligibility Criteria
Essential Requirements (Shortlisting & Interview)
Qualifications
- Recognised teaching qualification for NI grant-aided post-primary schools.
- Degree (Level 6) in French as a main subject.
Experience & Registration
- Minimum 3 months of teaching French at Key Stage 3/4 to produce positive outcomes (practical experience accepted).
- Ability to teach English at Key Stage 3 effectively.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Diverse teaching strategies (adaptive to pupils’ needs).
- Digital tools/technology (tablets, online resources, etc.). GTCNI registration prior to appointment.

Desirable Criteria (Bonus for Selection)
Skills & Interests
- Experience teaching GCSE/SQA OCN French at Key Stage 4.
- Capacity to assist with European Day of Languages or cultural/hub extracurricular events.
- Willingness to manage a mix of learning styles for Newcomers and learners with SEND.
- Confidence in conducting pupil progress reviews, setting targets, and intervention strategies.

- This position covers maternity leave, requiring a flexible and inclusive approach.
