Job description:
We are looking for a Part-time, Post-Residency Clinician in Anaesthesia and Analgesia to join our team here at Cave Veterinary Specialists.
It’s a very exciting time to join a forward-thinking and highly motivated anaesthesia team that has the support of the Linnaeus Group, providing significant investment in ensuring new innovative services and a commitment to personal and career development.
Cave is a multi-disciplinary veterinary hospital in Somerset, UK. We have a diverse specialist team, including disciplines such as surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, oncology, neurology, and ophthalmology.
Cave is located just off J26 of the M5 in the beautiful Somerset countryside. It is easily commutable from Exeter and Bristol.
Hours: 3-days a week and a 1-in-4 out of hours rota.
Your Role And Responsibilities
We are looking for a pro-active clinician with excellent communication skills, a strong focus on animal welfare, and a positive, collaborative mindset. Experience with acupuncture is essential. Teamwork is fundamental to this role.

The Anaesthesia Team
Our anaesthesia service consists of:
- One Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
- One Diplomat of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine
- Three residency trained anaesthesia clinicians
- Four dedicated anaesthesia nurses
The role includes:
- Creating tailored anaesthetic and analgesic plans for hospitalised patients
- Supervising RVNs monitoring anaesthetics
- Performing anaesthesia for high-risk ASA patients
- Out of hours support to other services
Training & Education
The anaesthesia team is actively involved in ongoing in-house training for our referral registered veterinary nurses, primary care vets, and nurses, contributing to clinical development across the organisation.
Anaesthetist work closely with all teams across the hospital and play an active role in stabilising patients and providing advice in the use of vasopressors, mechanical ventilation, and pain management.

Anaesthetist also regularly deliver external CPD, including lunch-and-learn sessions, and provide case-based advice to referring vets where needed.
Equipment
- Locoregional anaesthesia: the team has access to dedicated ultrasound and nerve stimulator units.
- Mechanical ventilation: all theatres are equipped with anaesthetic workstations and ventilators, as well as portable ventilators in the imaging area and dentistry suit.
- Cardiac output monitor.
- Multiparameter monitors, with available invasive blood pressure
