Royal Mail Delivery Driver (Postie) – Consett Derwentside Delivery Office, DH8 7RU | Permanent Contract
The Role
Join Royal Mail as a Postal Delivery Driver in Consett and become the trusted face of Britain’s reliable delivery service. In this rewarding role, you’ll:
- Sort letters and parcels at our Consett delivery office
- Deliver mail by van and on foot across your community
- Build lasting customer relationships
- Work outdoors in all weathers, dragging parcels and parcels in a fast-paced environment
More than just mail: you’ll hand-deliver exam results, surprise birthday cards, and vital business orders. It’s challenging, but the impact and satisfaction make it worthwhile.
A Day in the Life
This is a physically demanding and dynamic role—prepare for:
- Up to 12 miles daily (over 20,000+ steps)
- Daily van driving to your route
- Working in all four seasons, rain or shine
- High volumes of mail during peak periods
- Fast-paced, time-sensitive deliveries

Your schedule will rotate across Monday–Sunday, from 08:30 to 20:00 (including Sunday coverage 12:20–18:30).

About You
Are you ready to join us?
To succeed, you should:
- Hold a full UK manual driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points; registered to current name/address)
- Be willing to drive Royal Mail vans daily and pass our driving assessment
- Be physically fit with resilience for:
- Long-distance walking (mountains, hills, stairs)
- Lifting 10kg+ mailbags
- Self-driven, organised, and customer-focused—because some days can be intense
- Proud of offering great service in a fast, hands-on environment
- Thriving in independent, outdoor work
