Postal Delivery Driver

Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) – Lytham St Annes, FY8 1AA

Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (6 months) Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly)* + paid overtime available Hours: 27 hours 30 minutes per week (5-day week, Monday–Sunday, 08:30–16:00*)

What You’ll Do

  • Sort letters and parcels in the delivery office
  • Deliver post via van, including urban and rural routes

What to Know About the Work

This role is fast-paced and physically demanding, requiring:

  • Daily driving of a Royal Mail van
  • Walking long distances (accurately monitored via step tracking)
  • Operating in all weather conditions
  • Delivering high volumes of letters and parcels promptly
  • Busy workloads during peak periods (higher demands and urgency)

Sundays are worked on a rota basis.


About You

Established since 1837, Royal Mail needs dedicated individuals. You’ll get full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van, but you must:

✅ Hold a full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points, registered to your current address & name) ✅ Pass a Royal Mail van driving assessment ✅ Be physically fit, walking long distances, climbing hills/stairs, and carrying 10+ kg mailbags ✅ Be reliable, organised, and resilient ✅ Be customer-focused, embodying trust and reliability ✅ Comfortable working outdoors, independently, and under pressure

Key Note: while this job is often advertised as a 35-37 hour "full-time" equivalent role, this position at 27.5 hours per week is classified as part-time in the contract.

You’ll carry a substantial responsibility as a Postie. This includes safely delivering ballots, exam results, and certain perishables (e.g. cold food, alcohol) completely aligned with Royal Mail business standards.
