Postal Delivery Driver

Royal Mail – Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) – Bristol South

Location: Bristol South Delivery Office, BS3 3NR

Type of Role: Fixed Term Contract (6 months) Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available Hours: 30 hours per week (5 days in 7) Working Pattern:

  • Weekdays: 08:00–16:00
  • Sundays: 13:00–21:00 (3 out of 4 Sundays required)

The Role

As a Postie, your responsibilities include:

  • Sorting letters and parcels at the Bristol South Delivery Office
  • Delivering post by van and on foot in your local area
  • Building customer relationships with residents and businesses
  • Working outdoors, rain or shine, to ensure safe and timely deliveries

What You’ll Experience

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

  • Daily walking (~12 miles/day or 20,000+ steps)
  • Driving a Royal Mail van daily (assessment required)
  • Working in all weather conditions, including heavy snow or rain
  • Time-pressured deliveries, especially during peak seasons (elections, Christmas, etc.)
  • High-volume parcel handling, including fragile or essential items

About You

Essential:

  • Full manual UK driving licence (≤ 6 penalty points; registered to current name & address)
  • Willingness and ability to pass a Royal Mail driving assessment
  • Physically fit and comfortable with:
    • Long walks, hills, and stairs
    • Lifting/carrying 10kg+ mailbags
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and resilient in high-pressure environments
  • Customer-focused with a proactive service mindset
  • Able to work independently and outdoors

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have no convictions deemed incompatible with postal service duties
  • Comfortable handling sensitive items, such as election materials, alcohol, or perishables
