Postal Delivery Driver
Delivery Driver (Postie) – Royal Mail, Alton
Location: Alton Delivery Office, GU34 1AA
Job Type: Permanent contract
Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working Hours:
- 37 hours per week
- 5 days in 7 (Monday–Sunday)
- Shifts: 07:00–14:45
- Sundays worked on a rota basis

Your route could involve driving to deliver important goods or walking far. Your dedicated van, training, and community-facing nature are all essential to this rewarding role. Here, being active, independent, and customer-focused matters most.
What You’ll Do
- Sort and prepare letters and packages at the Alton Delivery Office
- Deliver postal items, including:
- Letters via van or on foot
- Parcels
- Special deliveries like exam results and high-value orders
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers
- Work and thrive outdoors year-round, regardless of weather
Beyond reliability, you’ll find a blend of structure and variety, tailored by shifts,-and even bank holidays. Short shifts are desirable, due to high traffic loads.

About You
Royal Mail provides training, a uniform, and a red van with pride—but this job demands:
Key Requirements:
- A valid full UK manual driving licence (with no more than 6 penalty points at the time of application; registered to your current name and address)
- Ability and willingness to pass a company driving assessment, handling Royal Mail vans daily
- Fitness to work outdoors in all conditions: -comfortable walking long distances -capable of climbing stairs/hills (hilly neighbourhoods may apply) -physically able to lift/carry mailbags (10kg+) regularly
- A reliable, self-motivated team player
- Strong organisational skills, awareness of time sensitivity, and resilience in stresssful environments
