Postal Delivery Driver
Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) – Fixed Term Contract (9 Months)
Location: Chingford Delivery Office, E4 6AA Type: Fixed Term contract (9 months) Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available Hours: 30 hours per week (5 days × 7 weekend availability), 9:00–15:00 (rotating shifts)

Responsibilities
- Sort and dispatch: Handle letters, parcels, and high-volume mail efficiently
- Local delivery: Drive a Royal Mail van and walk routes (up to 12 miles/day) in all weather
- Customer relations: Build rapport with neighbours and businesses
- Service commitment: Ensure timely delivery of time-sensitive items, including exam results, business orders, and time-critical correspondence

Role Essentials
You’ll enjoy being active, independent, and engaged with your community, while meeting customers and enjoying structure with daily variety.
However, this is a physically demanding, fast-paced role. Daily demands include:
✅ Active shifts: Nextday driving (up to 12 miles/day or 20,000+ steps ) ✅ Outdoor work: All weather conditions, including rain/snow ✅ Manual handling: Lifting 10kg+ mailbags, climbing stairs or hills ✅ Time-sensitive delivery: Busy peak periods require flexibility
About You
Royal Mail can equip you with training and a uniform—but you’ll need:
Driving & Licensing
- Full manual UK driving licence (≤6 penalty points, registered to your name and current address)
- Ability to pass Royal Mail’s vehicle assessment
- Comfort with daily courier van navigation
Physical & Operational Fit
- Fit and mobile for lengthy walking/untiling
- Strong customer skills with pride in service excellence
Mindset

- Organised and resilient under pressure
- Comfortable working outdoors independently
