Royal Mail Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) – Norwich
Location: Delivery Office, Norwich NR7 8ZZ Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (6 months) Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly), plus paid overtime available Working Hours: 35 hours per week (5 days in 7 including weekends) Shift Times: 12:45pm–19:45pm or 06:45am–14:45pm
About the Role
Join Royal Mail as a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) and become the trusted face of our delivery service in Norwich, bringing letters and parcels to your local community.
You’ll work flexible shifts, meet neighbours along your routes, and deliver life’s important moments—from greeting cards to exam results—all while staying active outdoors.
What You’ll Do
- Sort and prepare mail and parcels at the delivery office
- Deliver mail by van and on foot across your assigned route
- Build relationships with customers and neighbours
- Work in diverse weather conditions
Deliver more than mail—community moments, business orders, and personal milestones—when they’re needed.

What You’ll Experience
This is a physically demanding and fast-paced role with unique challenges daily:
- Walking 12 miles (20,000+ steps) per shift
- Daily driving of a Royal Mail delivery van
- Operating in all weather conditions
- High-volume parcel sorting and time-pressured deliveries
- Peak periods demand resiliency and speed
About You
Requirements
You’ll need to demonstrate—and be prepared to verify—the following:
- A full UK car driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to current name and address)
- Ability to pass a Royal Mail driving assessment and operate a van daily
- Physical fitness for long walks, climbing stairs, hills, and regularly lifting +10kg mailbags
- Reliability and independence—make your own decisions in the field
- Strong organisation skills, time management, and resilience
- Customer-focused attitude with pride in excellent service
- Comfort working outdoors and alone
