Fixed Term Delivery Driver (Postie) – Heathfield DO, TN21 8PH

Location: Heathfield, TN21 8PH

Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (6 months)

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available

Working Hours: 30 hours per week, 5 days in 7 (Mon-Sun)

  • Core hours: 08:00–14:30
  • Flexible till 19:00 during peak periods

About the Role

Joining Royal Mail as a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) means you’ll become the trusted face of their service, delivering letters and parcels across Heathfield. You'll work on a rotating schedule (including some weekends), updating frequencies as demand varies.

Work includes:

  • Delivering to addresses like St Leonards/Tontebridge, with Sunday work expected around 1 in 6 weeks depending on the Delivery Office.

What You’ll Do

  • Sort and process letters/parcels at the delivery office
  • Deliver by van and foot within Heathfield
  • Engage and build customer relationships
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions

What To Expect

This physically demanding role involves:

  • Walking up to 12 miles per day (~20,000+ steps)
  • Driving a Royal Mail van daily

Requirements

Full training, a uniform, and a red van will be provided. To qualify, you must:

  • Have a full manual UK driving licence

    • Maximum 6 penalty points
    • Registered to your current name and address
  • Be willing to drive the Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment

  • Be physically fit:

    • Comfortable with long walks, hills/climbing, and lifting 10kg+ mailbags
  • Be reliable, self-motivated, and able to manage a busy, independent work schedule
