Postal Delivery Drivers

Royal Mail – Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) – Fixed-Term Contract (9 Months) – Glasgow

Location: Bishopbriggs Delivery Office, G64 2RB Job Type: Fixed-term contract (9 months) Hours: 28.5 hours per week (5-day work week, covering Monday–Sunday shifts) Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available **

About the Role

Join Royal Mail as a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver)—become the trusted face of our service in Glasgow, where you’ll deliver letters, parcels, and moments that matter.


What You’ll Do

  • Sort and organise letters and parcels at the delivery office
  • Deliver post by van and on foot across your local area
  • Build relationships with customers and assess their needs
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, walking up to 12 miles per shift (20,000+ steps)

More than just mail: you’ll help deliver exam results, birthday cards, and time-sensitive packages—every day brings variety.

What to Expect

This is a fast-paced, physically demanding role:

  • Long walking distances daily (fitter applicants perform best)
  • Driving a Royal Mail van (must pass a pre-start assessment)
  • Open-air work, rain, snow, or wind—and lesson periods
  • High-volume deliveries, including bulky parcels (up to 10kg bags)
  • Peak demand periods may involve extra hours

** REQUIREMENTS **

We’ll provide training, uniform, and an iconic red van—we just need:

Essential

✅ Full, valid UK manual driving licence (less than 6 penalty points) ✅ Van is registered to your current name and address ✅ Willing to drive the van daily and pass the Royal Mail driving assessment ✅ Physically fit (ability to walk 12+ miles/day, climb stairs, carry parcels >10kg) ✅ Reliable, motivated, and resilient under pressure

Experience/license is not required—absolute beginners welcome!
