Postdoctoral Research Assistant (111629-0726)

Postdoctoral Research Associate The Institute for Global Sustainable Development, University of Warwick

About The Role

For informal queries, please contact: Dr Hita Unnikrishnan (Assistant Professor – Institute for Global Sustainable Development) ✉ Hita.Unnikrishnan@warwick.ac.uk

The Institute for Global Sustainable Development (IGSD) at the University of Warwick is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to support the British Academy-funded BREATHE research project.

Key Duties (±40h/week, Full-Time)

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in developing scientific publications from project research.
  • Undertake administrative duties related to project management.
  • Collaborate with project co-leads to ensure efficient execution of research.

The BREATHE project examines how historical and intersectional inequalities shape differential experiences of heat stress and indoor air pollution (IAP) among peri-urban households in the Global South, particularly women and vulnerable groups in patriarchal households. With a team comprising:

  • Dr. Hita Unnikrishnan (Warwick, Lead)
  • Dr. Lavanya Suresh (BITS Pilani, Hyderabad)
  • Dr. Manik Gupta (BITS Pilani, Hyderabad)
  • Dr. Deepshikha Batheja (One Health Trust)

The project combines: ✔ Historical research on gender coloniality and living conditions ✔ Large-scale household surveys (2 regions in South Indian Karnataka: Bidar, Chikkaballapur) ✔ Satellite data analysis ✔ Machine learning models

Autoethnographic methods and stakeholder engagement will inform co-designing equitable climate interventions. SQL or R conduit.

Eligibility: Unfortunately, this role is only open to applicants with an existing right to work in the UK, due to project restrictions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
