Researcher in Residence
At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we provide tools for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures, with customers using our process solutions to research and produce materials and semiconductors vital for everything from medical devices and diagnostics, to electric cars and quantum computers.
We're seeking a talented Researcher in Residence based at the University of Glasgow to join our team. This is a pivotal role that will help us build on our achievements in the Compound Semiconductor research sector. As the Researcher in Residence, you'll be responsible for leading Oxford Instruments' research initiatives at the University of Glasgow, including OIPT research and superconducting, semiconducting and photonic collaborations. Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate and characterise semiconductor devices using the facilities at the University of Glasgow.
- Analyse the results of the device characterisation work and produce technical reports.
- Work closely with the Applications Team at Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology to develop deposition and etch processes to deliver improved device performance.
- Develop the technical understanding of the atomic scale processing team at Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology regarding device performance and customer requirements.
- Work with Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology to provide project updates and complete device processing as required.
- Liaise with customers, in conjunction with the Product Managers and Sales Teams, to understand device performance requirements.
- Carry out research, network with the University of Glasgow and other academic institutions to ensure our processing solutions are at the leading edge of device performance and other applications.
- Identify and develop opportunities for new collaborations between Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology and other partners to enhance our understanding of future applications.
- Supervision of MSc/PhD students as required.
- Attend exhibitions and conferences to represent Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology and author and publish technical papers.

Education / Qualifications
- PhD in electronics, electrical engineering, physics, material science or related field
- Experience in fabricating and characterisation of semiconductor, photonics or related devices
- Hands-on experience using ICP or RIE etch systems
- Experience with photolithography and E-beam evaporation preferred

Professional Skills/ Abilities
- Experience operating ICP and RIE etch systems, ideally an Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology cluster system
- Experience in device fabrication process, including an understanding of how changes to the plasma process affect device performance.
- Operation of current-voltage and capacitance-voltage measurement tools.
- Mask design for device fabrication using Ledit or a similar package.
- Nanotechnology measuring (SEM, Ellipsometry, AFM, etch depths / profiles etc.) and device characterisation (current-voltage and capacitance-voltage measurement, etc.) skills.
- Previous experience in developing Atomic Scale Processing technologies such as ALD and ALE an advantage.
- Exposure to using software tools such as Origin Pro and MATLAB.
- Previously presented at relevant conferences on work related to semiconductor devices along with co-authoring several recently published papers.
- Familiar with project management tools and techniques.
