The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join the laboratory of Dr. John Smith in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research in the area of organic synthesis and catalysis, with a focus on developing new methodologies for carbon-carbon bond formation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute synthetic organic chemistry experiments.
- Develop and optimize catalytic reactions.
- Characterize new compounds using various spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS, IR).
- Analyze and interpret experimental data.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences.
- Mentor and train junior graduate and undergraduate students.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.

Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related field.
- Proven track record of research in organic synthesis and catalysis.
- Strong knowledge of reaction mechanisms and modern synthetic methods.
- Proficiency in spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS, IR).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience with computational chemistry tools is a plus.
- Experience with flow chemistry is a plus.
- Strong publication record in reputable journals.

This is a full-time, temporary position with a salary commensurate with experience. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
