About the Role
This research position is for a fixed-term duration of 2 years (with potential for extension, subject to funding) and is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC). The successful candidate will contribute to our cardiovascular research programme, spanning genetic and epidemiological research into cardiovascular disease and analysis of large-scale, multi-modal cardiovascular imaging data (MRI, CT, echocardiography), with real potential to grow into machine learning and AI methods. This role involves working with large-scale research datasets in secure data environments (SDEs) and close collaboration with our international network of collaborators.
About You
The ideal candidate will hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in statistical genomics, genetic epidemiology, data science, computing, artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field. Strong programming skills using Python and R in a Linux environment, with experience using GitHub for code management, are essential. Candidates should be located within commutable distance of Greater London, or willing to relocate.
We're particularly keen to hear from candidates with a strong publication track record in genetic epidemiology, GWAS, or omics-based research, and hands-on experience with GWAS methodology (e.g. fine-mapping, colocalisation, polygenic risk scoring, or Mendelian Randomisation). Experience working with large-scale, multi-modal research datasets, ideally within secure data environments, is also highly desirable, as is exposure to, or interest in applying, machine learning and AI methods to biomedical or imaging data.

About the Institute
The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) is a world-leading centre within the QMUL Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, devoted to therapeutic innovation in cardiovascular, endocrine and inflammatory diseases. The Centre for Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging, established in 2010 and closely linked to the Department of Imaging at Barts Heart Centre, Barts Health NHS Trust, applies statistical, epidemiological, multi-omics and machine learning approaches to national-scale imaging cohorts. Our research is multidisciplinary, with collaborators across leading academic centres internationally. The postholder will have opportunities to develop their academic profile in data science, machine learning and statistical genetics within a friendly, accessible and internationally connected team.
