Who We Are
You will be based in the Postgraduate Office at the Department of Engineering's site in central Cambridge.
The Role
The Postgraduate Office offers a complete "cradle to grave" service to all postgraduate students registered in the Engineering Department, from initial enquiries, through the application process, registration on arrival, the period of study, and examination, to closure of files once a student has graduated.
There are over 2,000 postgraduate applications to Engineering each year, and at certain points in the academic year over 900 current postgraduate students.
The PO supports the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Engineering, which also includes degree committee functions for the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (approx. 200 current students).
Responsibilities
You will be the main point of contact for students, staff and academics within the Engineering Department and will co-ordinate the research examinations process.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
