Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) – Fixed Term Contract
Location: Crowborough Delivery Office, TN6 1AA
Job Type & Pay
- Fixed Term contract (waiting for term clarification – amend/delete if not applicable)
- Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available *(contractрус., paid working hours at 37/hr w.)
- Working Hours:
- 37 hours per week (working X days across Monday–Sunday)
- Typical shift times: 07:49–16:00 (to be replaced with/verify your rota)
- Some Sundays will be required. (tbb. amend/delete if not applicable)
About the Role
Join Royal Mail as a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) – the face of their trusted service, delivering letters, parcels, and moments that matter to Crowborough.
You’ll work a rotating shift schedule, balancing environmental demand (walking, driving, weather exposure) for an active, community-focused role.
What You’ll Do
- Sort letters and parcels at the Crowborough Delivery Office
- Deliver post by van and on foot, tailoring routes for your local area
- Build positive relationships with customers (“A smile and wave or quick chat go along way!”)
- Work outdoors in all weather *(sun, rain, snow, heat, wind, etc.) *
More than just mail. Hand-deliver:
- Exam results
- Birthday cards and gifts
- Critical business documents
- Election materials (mandatory compliance)
- Plus parcels imported from online retail (e.g., UK/Gարանمی բաժplotlib/Deliveroo pickups)
Even amid peak times (e.g., holidays, shopping frenzies), you’ll bring logic, patience, and routine to fast-paced days.
Key Challenges
✅ Physically demanding:
- Walk and climb up to 12 miles daily (~20,000+ steps trajectory)*
- Drive Royal Mail vans daily (pass a driving assessment)
- Recurrent weather exposure (waterproof boots mandatory)
- Lift/carry up to 10 kg mailbags boxes/climbing hills/stairs

About You
Essential Requirements
- A full, manual UK driving license (under 6 penalty points) registered to your current name/address
- Ability to pass a Royal Mail driving assessment (including van controls & knocking "weight operations")
- Physical preparedness:
- Proven comfort walking long distances (20,000+ steps/day)
- Climbing steps/hills carrying loads, including worse-case scenarios (e.g., heavy mailbags + weather strains)
- Capable of lifting/carrying 10kg+ items repeatedly
- Reliability & resilience:
- Self-motivated with strong time management
- Consistent attendance (shift scheduling like an individual “observer”)
- Ability to work independently (minimal supervision in field)
Customer-Focused Fit
- Confident in community interaction (e.g., verbal/customer service.)
- Pride driving excellent service use with invisible loyalty to the job
