Job Details
- Location: Sherburn Delivery Office, LS25 6ES
- Type: Fixed Term contract (subject to contract length – amend if not applicable)
- Salary: £13.68/hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available
- Hours: 35 hours per week, rotating shifts (Monday–Sunday), typical 08:00–15:00 (varies by rota)
- Key Requirement: Interim Sunday shifts (at Sherburn Delivery Office) mandatory—(remove if not applicable)

About the Role
This dynamic role involves sorting mail and parcels before distributing them via van and foot across your local area. You’ll forge strong customer relationships while encountering diverse timelines—from an exam results joyride to meeting tight peak-period deadlines.
A day on the job is busy and fast-paced, but every effort makes a difference. Whether it’s securing votes during an election or delivering that late-night business package, this role is physically demanding yet deeply rewarding.
Your Responsibilities

- Sort and process letters and parcels efficiently
- Handling high-volume envelopes while maintaining urgency and accuracy.
- Drive and walk assigned delivery routes covering up to 12 miles daily (approx. 20,000+ steps/day).
- Van driving is integral—Royal Mail vehicles are equipped for urban and rural posts.
- Build trust and rapport with customers, neighbours, and businesses
- Addressing questions, complaints, and personal touches to reflect Royal Mail’s commitment to service.
- Be the face of our network—adapting to all weather conditions with poise.
- Ensure safe, accurate delivery of all items, per Royal Mail operational standards.
- This includes election materials handling, hygiene-standard mail sorting, and careful transport of items like food/alcohol (when applicable).
